Detailed Information - Vellore Institute Of Technology (VIT)

This article is for all those people who have agood rank in aieee and also a good stream in vit. After seeing a no of aspirants in this forum looking for advice i try to spread a common voice to all of u.

I will discuss 6 important parameters of the college which are the fundamentals of a good college.

1> Student Quality: as we all know vit has its own entrance exam known as VITEEE....which is quite popular amongst the aspirants. the competition of the exam is quite relaxed because many brilliant students often choose not to appear........but stil around 30 percent of the people who have air less than 5000 in aieee appear in viteee....so an average student normally makes it through.........

Vit also has some reserved seats through aieee . Its cutoff usually ranges between 6000 and 7000 for core departments.....and extends upto 11000 for civil and biotech.

and vit also has quite a large no of mangement seats........which deteoriate the experience of education to some level.

overall i can say people at vit normally have aieee airs ranging between 10000 and 15000. with some exceptions. so we can say the crowd at vit consists of average people.

2>Faculty: well the faculty is definitely not upto the mark in cs department. that department suffers a lot because of faculty. But ece department has 60 percent ex iit faculty.....the dean JP raina himself is from IIT CHENNAI....the best faculty of course is in mech department....numorous phds.....the dean Mr NARAYNA ....is worshipped by the students... He is an excellent human being and probably one of the best proffessors of INDIA. But ofcourse he does not have any brand name attched to him. so people take time to recognise his callibe.

so finally i conclude that vit faculty just makes it to the category of being called good.......but the cs department needs to improve a lot.

3> Infrastructure: All i can say is except some iits and bits pilani no one can really challenge the infra of vit. the labs are very regularlry maintained. the labs are updated every 2 yrs......the library is so good that one does not need to spend even a penny on books. Its really one of the excellent and most successful establishments of the vit management. Only the students can explain how much they are benifitted by it. the classrooms are now being upgrade to latest tech skills........

4> Placement: I wont call placement of vit upto the mark....it can get better but the mentality of vit management is wrong ......when it comes to placements VIT concentrates on quantity and sacrifices quality......it does get 100 percent placement  with an acerage of abt 3.2.......it sounds good but in these kind of placements there is no job satisfaction.......I mean 70 percent of the people are employed in IT sector no matter what there Branch was and that too in tcs........people from unnamed colleges also get recruited to tcs.....and working with them brings some sort of frustration.

the percentage of people getting core companies is very less abt thirty percent . But the number remains consisten, last yr yahoo selected 3 people from vit and 2 from dce. microsoft recuted one from VIT and one from dce.........so the recruitors are actually paying full respect to vit but the percentage lags behind because of the high intake of vit. Remember dce has just 600 bstudents . where as vit has 1545 students.

so some people in vit are very happy with these kind of placements but some like me r worried about it.

5> International relations: now this is something that vit has taken care of brilliantly.......many people think that in India only BITS and IITs are internationally recognised.... but the hard truth is vit people are getting no less recognition than the iitians and bitsians. you might think i am insane. but no man....what is true its troe it has mous signed with 130 universities worldwide . which includes likes of purdue. VITIANS get to do their project and internships abroad and in some cases free of cost.......the university itself finances if a student has genuine needs. last yr  50 students from mech department went to various abroad univ.. Now this is a field in which vit management should be proud of itself.

6>Research well research in vit is bounded only within some areas....As the funds for research is quite less than any nits. so it instead of focussing on varied topics , focusse on a particular topic at a time. So nanotechnology has been very successful in vit. U will also get TIFAC CORE. visit the link given below to have a proper idea.

So finally if i rate vit on a scale of 10 an honest rate would be 7

and an honest rank of vit would be 20-25.

so this is the true picture of vellore institute of technology. Best of luck to all the aspirants. hope my effort was of help. May god bless u all wherever u go and whatever u do.
